| Cheryl Douglas is a Maryland-born artist who was formally trained in illustration, photography and graphic design. She received her BS from Towson State University in 1986, became certified to teach in 1990 and finally received her MA in Art Education in 1996. Although she currently enjoys a longstanding teaching career, her true passion is in creating art. Her primary medium is pastel and her subject of choice is portraiture.
"The depth in every portrait exists within the eyes. I love doing portraits; especially portraits of people I admire and respect. Pastels are wonderful because they have a richness like paint that I can blend on the paper but I don't have to wait for it to dry!"
Cheryl captures the likeness of her subjects as well as a lifelike depth in her portraits.
She prefers to work from photographs because of the convenience to both artist and client.
